Denied: Meek Mill sues Vegas Hotel for Racism

Meek Mill seeks a lawyer after a controversy with some staff members at the Cosmopolitan, (“Cosmo”), Hotel in Las Vegas. Staff at the Cosmo allegedly told Mill he would be arrested if he entered the hotel.

The Cosmo is a private establishment; therefore, the Constitution’s protections do not necessarily apply. However, Mill plans to sue the Cosmo for denying him access based on race. Two hotel staff members allegedly told Mill that they refused to do business with Mill at this time and that they have the right to do that. The Cosmo released a statement Monday outlining the decision was based on the safety and security of their guests. The hotel used the aforementioned reason to quell any race related reasons for denying Mill entry onto the property.

While private actors are not held to the same standards as governmental actors as it relates to equal protection, a Vegas club denying a famous and talented rapper entry seems illogical. The Cosmo claimed they denied Mill’s entry because of capacity reasons; however, Vegas clubs and casinos are notorious for bending the rules. Without knowing all of the facts, it is hard to say who was right and who was wrong, but, if I was the manager of the club, I would love for someone like Mill to enter because of the crowds he would draw. In Vegas, with crowds comes money, and it seems this notion is what most establishments care about in Vegas. Stay tuned for developments in this story as Mill plans to sue the Cosmopolitan.
