Jeopardy: Yo Gotti May Lose Money, Mansion, and Cars with Default Judgment

Rapper Yo Gotti was just hit with a $6.6 million default judgment after failing to respond to a lawsuit that was served to him last year while he was onstage.

According to TMZ and other news outlets, Gotti reportedly received $20,000 to record a song with North Carolina rapper Young Fletcher back in 2016, but pocketed the money and refused to release the song. Instead, Gotti allegedly recorded a similar song on his own. Further, Gotti allegedly went behind Fletcher’s manager’s back in an attempt to convince Fletcher to leave his North Carolina record label and to join Gotti’s own label.

The North Carolina judge overseeing the case initially issued a $2.2 million judgment. However, after finding Gotti engaged in “willful, unfair, and deceptive acts,” the judge tripled the amount to a whopping $6.6 million. As of yet, Gotti and his representatives have not commented on the matter.

According to Fletcher’s manager, Michael Terry, they will go after Gotti’s mansion, cars, and other belongings to satisfy the judgment if they have to. Given the enormous judgment, Gotti should strongly consider hiring legal counsel and appealing if he can show his failure to respond was substantially justified. If Gotti finds himself in future legal battles, whether or not they are with Fletcher, it would definitely be wise for him to respond.
