Reform: Meek Mill fights Criminal Injustice with New Film

We need justice. During the BET Awards, Amazon showed the trailer for Meek Mill’s docuseries, Free Meek, that is set to be released on August 9.

Amazon is set to release a five part docuseries based on Meek Mill’s life and the case that has greatly affected his life. In case you missed the drama behind Mill’s case, here are some quick facts: In 2017, Mill was arrested for popping wheelies on his dirt bike and for being involved in an altercation. Mill was on probation for nearly ten years. Because these actions allegedly violated his probation for a gun and drug crime in 2008, Mill was sentenced to two to four years in medium-security prison. The docuseries highlights some of the injustices of our criminal system and the need for reform.

Our criminal justice system is not perfect; however, there are times that the system is unjust as well. One example is the California Innocence Project: Since 1999, the California Innocence Project has freed 30 innocent people who were wrongly accused. Meek Mill’s ten year probation seems extremely excessive. Ten years is too much time for almost anyone to remain perfect, according to the law, especially when riding your dirt bike can lead to a parole violation. Our system is imperfect but also outright unfair at times. Feel free to comment below with your thoughts on Mill’s case or your thoughts on our criminal justice system.
