Trump’s Nominee Kavanaugh fate is up to Ford testimony

This week, renowned psychologist Dr. Christine Blasey Ford testified that Brett Kavanaugh — Republican President Donald Trump‘s nominee to the nation’s highest court — sexually assaulted her while both were in high school.  Ford said she was “100 percent” certain Kavanaugh attacked her.

Actress Alyssa Milano attended the hearing in support of Ford.

Kavanaugh, who followed Ford to the witness stand, accused Democrats of a last-minute partisan attack to delay his confirmation.

Democrats responded with their criticisms of the way Judiciary Committee Republicans have pushed through along party lines to confirm Kavanaugh, setting a time for the vote and refusing to call other women who also have made charges against Kavanaugh or witnesses who could collaborate them, or to request an FBI investigation into the allegations.

Unlike a court of law, where a court case would require evidence “beyond a reasonable doubt” that the alleged assault occurred, this is a hearing for job nomination and so the same burden does not exist.  Especially for an accusation that has no physical proof or corroborating witnesses.  So the decision about the Kavanaugh nomination will come down to whether the Senate believes Kavanaugh accusations enough to determine that Kavanaugh is not ethically fit to hold office in the Supreme Court.

At 1:30pm, the Judiciary Committee will vote on Kavanaugh’s nomination to the supreme court.

*UPDATE 2:05 PM EST 9/28/18*– Judiciary committee in a 11 to 10 vote voted to move Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Senate for a final vote.  However, Senator Flake (R) calls for delay on Kavanaugh Senate vote while a one week FBI investigation proceeds in a limited scope to investigate Kavanaugh and other accusers allegations.  Flake says that he would not be comfortable with final vote until FBI investigation occurred. If Flake gets other senators to join him in refusing to vote their can be a delay on the final vote.  Two Republicans changing their final vote to “No” would end Kavanaugh’s nomination anyway.  Trump has stated previously that he would not move forward with a FBI investigation.  Stay tune if his position changes.

*FINAL UPDATE 10/6/18

Hollywood protests didn’t cancel the Final 50 to 48 vote in favor of confirming Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court today. Actresses Amy Schumer and Emily Ratajowsi were among the 300 individuals arrested in DC on Thursday. All were charged with “Crowding, obstructing, or incommoding,” which presumably includes the actresses, although a #Capitol #Police spokeswoman was unable to confirm the names of those arrested. Arrestees will be charged a $50 fine for the misdemeanor offense. Kavanaugh was immediately sworn in after the vote on Saturday.
