This was said by the acting US Attorney Jacquelyn Kasulist outside the court room following the reading of all 9 convictions. During the month-long trial, the New York prosecution characterize the celebrity as a predator who used his fame to collect and abuse victims. Kelly was convicted on 9 count adults that included sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, racketeering and violating the Mann Act, an anti-sex trafficking law, of five victims. After around two years of sitting in prison without bail, Kelly will now face 10 years to a life sentence in prison.<\/p>\n

These convictions come years after news and social media have realized his long record of inappropriate relationships with minors beginning with Aaliyah in 1994 and the infamous video of Kelly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl. Not to mention the document series \u201cSurviving R Kelly\u201d, that came around the time of the #MeToo era that gave a platform for sexual victims to speak their truth, especially against those in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

I’m sure those following the news in the past couple of years have seen the multiple court cases brought against him. Just looking at his history and the way that the entertainment industry and Kelly’s employees failed these victims, it is surely a comfort to know that he is convicted in at least one court of law. In the New York court case, it is hard hearing what these victims had gone through. Kelly still faces related sexual abuse charges in Illinois and Minnesota, and we are waiting on the trial dates to be set for those.<\/p>\n
