{"id":3566,"date":"2020-10-28T14:07:35","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T19:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/?p=3566"},"modified":"2020-10-28T14:41:03","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T19:41:03","slug":"likeness-lawsuit-terrence-howard-sues-tv-series-empire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/home\/likeness-lawsuit-terrence-howard-sues-tv-series-empire\/","title":{"rendered":"LIKENESS LAWSUIT: Terrence Howard Sues TV Series \u201cEmpire\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Contract and Personality Rights Issue.<\/p>\n<p>Actor Terrence Howard has filed a breach of contract lawsuit against 20<sup>th\u00a0<\/sup>Century Fox for unpaid compensation from the TV series \u201cEmpire&#8221; relating to the show&#8217;s logo. \u00a0The lawsuit claims that \u201cEmpire\u201d used his likeness in the show\u2019s logo without his permission.<\/p>\n<p>According to the complaint, Howard\u2019s agreement granted publicity and promotional uses to the show, but only if the show sought and obtained approval rights to images used. \u00a0Howard asked for royalties but was apparently given a run around.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/00161582.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3567\" src=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/00161582-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/00161582-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/00161582.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The logo being questioned (pictured above) features a photograph of Howard\u2019s face.\u00a0 He says that he never did a photo shoot for the logo.\u00a0 Reportedly, this image is actually from Howard\u2019s role as DJay in the 2005 film, <em>Hustle &amp; Flow<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 The image was a still frame allegedly selected, reversed, and subjected to CGI.<\/p>\n<p>What do you think of Howard\u2019s lawsuit?<\/p>\n<p>For any of your contract review or drafting services, please feel free to reach out to Carter Law Group.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New Contract and Personality Rights Issue.
