{"id":2506,"date":"2020-07-07T13:40:43","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T18:40:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/?p=2506"},"modified":"2020-07-07T13:40:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T18:40:43","slug":"nope-mariah-carey-says-she-cant-attend-court-because-she-might-get-covid-19-and-shell-lose-entire-singing-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/home\/nope-mariah-carey-says-she-cant-attend-court-because-she-might-get-covid-19-and-shell-lose-entire-singing-career\/","title":{"rendered":"NOPE: Mariah Carey Says She Can&#8217;t Attend Court Because She Might Get COVID-19 And She&#8217;ll Lose Entire Singing Career"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Not Taking Any Chances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Singer-songwriter, Mariah Carey, has recently claimed that she is unable to sit for a deposition in a legal battle with her former assistant\u00a0Lianna\u00a0Shakhnazaryan, because doing so would put her at an increased risk of contracting COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In legal documents obtained by\u00a0The Blast, the singer&#8217;s lawyers filed a petition asking a judge to order the assistant to stop continuing to press the singer to sit for a deposition, mainly because, &#8220;COVID-19 presents risks to all people, including lung damage, heart damage, organ failure, and death.&#8221; &#8216;Unique to Mariah, however, is the potential career-ending impact of any lung damage,&#8217; it continues.\u00a0It continued, &#8220;If Mariah\u2019s lungs are damaged, she will no longer be able to record music or perform and thus lose her ability to earn an income.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2507 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC-300x277.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"277\" srcset=\"https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC-300x277.jpg 300w, https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC-768x709.jpg 768w, https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC-1024x945.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/MC.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;m sure some of you are thinking, &#8220;Why can&#8217;t she just do it on a ZOOM call?&#8221; Well, according to her legal team, Carey\u00a0also shot down the idea of doing a remote deposition because she would require a team of multiple people to help her set it up, also putting her at risk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Carey has been suing Shakhnazaryan for allegedly trying to extort her for $8 million with &#8216;intimate&#8217; videos she filmed without her permission. She is seeking $5 million from the ex-assistant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It is likely that a judge may dismiss Carey&#8217;s claims for not wanting to to have a remote deposition. A remote deposition doesn&#8217;t seem to pose a great risk to one&#8217;s health, given the fact that all it requires is a laptop\/computer and an internet connection. What do you think?
