Floyd was a 46-year-old black man who died Monday after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on Floyd\u2019s neck for at least eight minutes. Floyd had been arrested for suspicion of forgery.<\/p>\n<p>Video of the incident in which Floyd screams \u201cPlease, I can\u2019t breathe\u201d and yells in anguish before going limp has sparked outrage online and protests in Minneapolis.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"688\" height=\"387\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lirHz93qJ50?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Celebrities of all stripes have taken to social media to express their disgust and sorrow, including Meek Mill, Jamie Foxx, Jeffrey Wright, Viola Davis, Cardi B, Justin Bieber, Chelsea Handler, Lupita Nyong\u2019o, Demi Lovato, Nick Jonas, and Snoop Dogg.<\/p>\n<p>Director Ava DuVernay wrote on Twitter, \u201cYou deserved your breath, your dignity, your life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NBA star LeBron James posted on Instagram a photo of the officer kneeling on Floyd\u2019s neck next to a picture of former NFL player Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem of a NFL game. He captioned the image \u201cThis&#8230; &#8230;.Is Why,\u201d referring to the controversy surrounding Kaepernick\u2019s kneeling.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lebron-James-1-the-real-one.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2108 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Lebron-James-1-the-real-one.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beyonc\u00e9 posted on Instagram, \u201cRest in power George Floyd\u201d along with a picture of a younger George Floyd in a tuxedo.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian West posted a drawing of Floyd with the hashtag \u201c#JusticeforGeorgeFloyd\u201d and a quote of George pleading with the cops on Instagram.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Celebrities.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2110 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/askcarterlaw.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Celebrities.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"286\" height=\"177\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Many celebrities have pointed out the eerie similarity between Floyd\u2019s death and the death of Eric Garner in 2014. Garner was a black man in New York who died from a NYPD officer\u2019s chokehold after being arrested for selling cigarettes. That incident was also caught on camera and spawned the rallying cry \u2018I can\u2019t breathe,\u2019 which were Gardner\u2019s dying words.<\/p>\n<p>Four officers were fired Tuesday for their roles in the death but have not been arrested or charged. President Donald Trump tweeted that he has ordered a FBI and Department of Justice investigation into the death.<\/p>\n<p>What else do you think should change to prevent tragic deaths like this in the future?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The World Mourns.
