Family Law: Royal Baby for Prince Harry!

Harry and Meghan married in May, becoming the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. There unborn child will be 7th in line to the thrown.

In 2013, the U.K. Parliament passed a law allowing succession of siblings to be decided by age, rather than gender. The previous rules meant that an older sister would come further down the pecking order than her younger brother.

While the baby’s pecking order has been determined, his or her title has not. Under current law, the baby would not automatically get the title of prince or princess but Queen Elizabeth has the power to give the baby this title if she chooses since she did it for Prince William’s children Charlotte and George. So we shall see!
