Saving Grace: Kim K with Rodney Reed When Execution Lifted

Saved by the Bell.

Reality star Kim Kardashian West says she was with Rodney Reed when he received the news that his execution would be delayed yesterday.

Reed was scheduled to be executed November 20 for the 1996 assault, rape and strangling of 19-year-old Stacey Stiles. He and attorneys with the Innocence Project say they have evidence that exonerates him and allegedly implicates the man engaged to her at the time, Jimmy Fennell, who was a police officer.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended Friday that Gov. Greg Abbott originally granted him a 120-day reprieve but now it is indeterminate.

The stay of Reed’s execution means that Reed gets a new trial and his case will go back to a state judge in Bastrop County where he was convicted. Reed unfortunately have to remain in prison to his new trial for now but at least his life is spared.

Legal and advocate groups across the country along with celebrities like Beyoncé and Oprah along with Republican and Democratic legislatures pleaded with the DA and Governor via calls, letters and a petition that garnered a record 3M signatures to urge them to grant the stay.

There was also vigils in LA, DC and Austin the night before the execution date had been lifted. Stay tuned for the final outcome of his new trial. My hope is that the courts will see that this evidence cast reasonable doubt which in our county should render his guilty verdict void.
