Privacy: Chris Brown Telephone Number May Be Exposed In Rape Case

Singer Chris Brown’s pleas for “Privacy” are now more than a hit song.

Chris Brown now faces legal troubles involving an alleged sexual assault that took place at his house back in February 2017. Additionally, Chris Brown must turn over his cellphone number to the woman bringing this action. The judge ruled that Brown’s number is something that can help investigate the alleged sexual assault, as Chris Brown witnessed the event. The main reasoning behind this ruling is that his cellphone number can help determine potential witnesses for the plaintiff.

Hey

The woman, named as Jane Doe in the suit, claims Chris Brown helped orchestrate the alleged assault by providing his party with illicit drugs. Without any corroborating witnesses, Jane Doe is not able to prove the events beyond a reasonable doubt. Grissom, a.k.a. Young Lo, was the main participant in the alleged sexual assault, while Chris Brown was only responsible for telling Grissom to push a couch in front of the door, trapping the victim in the room.

The Fourth Amendment states the following: “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.” I believe Chris Brown has a valid argument based on the right to privacy or, at the very least, turning his phone number over to a plaintiff, who may not even have a valid claim, is a violation of his rights. Regardless, the burden is on the prosecution to prove guilt. Additionally, prosecutors declined to file any criminal charges against Grissom for insufficient evidence. I do not see how Chris Brown’s phone records are relevant to the prosecution. He has the right to keep his phone records. Stay tuned to find out if Brown’s lawyer successfully makes this argument and to find out the outcome of the lawsuit.
