RICH GET RICHER. Jeff Bezos wants his girlfriends brother to pay him $1.7 million in legal fees for a failed defamation suit against him. Jeff Bezos is claimed to be the worlds richest person with a net worth of $193 billion.

Earlier last year Micheal Sanchez, Bezos’ girlfriends brother brought a defamation suit against him. Sanchez alleged Bezos defamed him by claiming he was the one who gave the National Enquirer sexually explicit text messages made by Bezos. The suit was tossed out for lack of evidence. Bezos is now requesting Sanchez pay him $1.7 million in legal fees. He claims Sanchez intended to harass him into a settlement.

Bezos’  request for the legal fees has allegedly been made under California law known as the anti-SLAPP statute. This statute allows the defendant to recover legal costs from the plaintiff. Generally, anti-SLAPP applies to lawsuits brought to discourage speech about issues of public significance or public participation in government proceedings. It is unsure whether the matter between Sanchez and Bezos is of public significance.
