No-Show: Soulja Boy sued for not showing up for performance

Fresh out of Jail…

Soulja Boy gets sued for not showing up after he was booked to perform in Birmingham, AL. The rapper allegedly kept the deposit of nearly $9000 and canceled minutes before via text message.

According to TMZ, and other news outlets Soujla Boy is being sued by William Hicks, a promoter, for breach of contract and the money he lost as a result of the no-show, which is allegedly around $13,487.85. The rapper’s manager texted Hicks minutes before the performance, claiming Soujla Boy missed his flight and would not make it. However, Hicks allegedly had his doubts claiming Soulja was partying in Vegas and performing there instead. Hicks sent out a legal letter to the rapper’s manager however, he did not receive his money back. Ironic how Soujla Boy was just released early from his prison sentence for good behavior and jail overcrowding, so much for that good behavior!

Generally, a breach of contract occurs when one party to a contract fails to perform any term of the contract without a valid legal reason. There has been an anticipatory breach as Soujla Boy’s manager texted Hicks saying he will not be performing. Furthermore, there was definitely not enough time given to Hicks to find someone else as this was minutes before the rapper was set to perform. However, for Hicks to win he would need to prove he suffered valid damages as a result of the no-show.
