Three-time Grammy Award winner, Lizzo, solidified a deal to create television projects set to stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Lizzo zoom-crashed Amazon’s virtual Television Critics Association meeting to officially announce their partnership during which the co-head of TV at Amazon Studios (Albert Cheng) called her a “force of positivity.” It is not surprising that the superstar, has her eyes set on new horizons given the success she has garnered from her studio albums and the recognition she has attained as a household name, a social media inspiration, a Grammy award winner and a multi-platinum artist. In the film and television industry, a first-look agreement is a contract between a production company (in this case Amazon Studios) and an independent writer/producer (Lizzo) for yet-to-be created or developed content. The contract in essence gives Amazon the right to a “first-look” at projects created by Lizzo and allows them to decide whether to purchase, produce and/or distribute the new material based on terms stated in the contract.

Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke expressed her enthusiasm over working with Lizzo to distribute her creative content for Amazon Prime – “Lizzo is one of the most exciting, creative, joyful artists in the industry, and it is such a pleasure to announce this new deal with her. She has such a unique perspective and we’re so excited to hear her ideas for new content that our Prime Video customers are sure to love.”

Lizzo is as equally pumped about having the Amazon platform to display her original content, stating “I’m so excited to partner with the amazing team at Amazon. Thank you to Jen Salke and the rest of the team for making this dream come true. I can’t wait to get started and share my vision with the world.”

In 2019, Lizzo’s 3rd studio album and debut major label album “Cuz I Love You” spent 24 consecutive weeks on the Billboard charts Top 10. Her singles “Truth Hurts,” “Good as Hell” and “Juice” all went platinum with “Truth Hurts” becoming the longest running #1 single in history for a solo rap artist. She has over 4 billion global streams for her music and has won Grammys for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome” and Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Cuz I Love You (Deluxe).” She engaged in acclaimed performances on both SNL and the Grammys and recently revealed her acting talents as a flute-playing stripper in the 2019 film Hustlers.

Fans are expecting Lizzo’s continued push to promote body-positivity and self-improvement in her future projects and in her highly-anticipated major TV debut with Amazon Studios.
