***5\/1\/19 Update*** Guardianship was denied until the 5\/14\/19 hearing where judge has requested Samantha give notice to Emani\u2019s mom Tanisha.<\/p>\n

Samantha Smith, the only sister of slain rapper and entrepreneur Nipsey Hussle is seeking legal guardianship over his daughter Emani according to court documents filed in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Although Nipsey kept Emani lived with him mostly prior to his death they actually have joint custody according to these family law documents.<\/p>\n

Typically a court will automatically grant joint physical custody (where the child lives) and legal custody (legal decisions like education and schooling) to parents unless one parent can show that the other is danger to the welfare of the child.<\/p>\n

So unless Samantha can show \u00a0Emani\u2019s mom Tanisha (Foster) Asghedom aka\u00a0\u201cChyna Hussle\u201d is an \u201cunfit\u201d mother (she uses the rapper\u2019s real last name and stage name although she was never married to him) to overcome this already established joint custody presumption that has been established by the court\u2019s previous decision then Tanisha will most likely be rewarded sole custody over Nipsey\u2019s sister.\u00a0Either way, it is very admirable for Samantha to request this as this is definitely a way to keep Nipsey\u2019s legacy alive!<\/p>\n
