HEARD IT WRONG: Johnny Depp’s libel case against a British newspaper kicked off with extreme claims about his marriage with Amber Heard.

Lies are Costly.

Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are not strangers when it comes to the tabloids. This time Depp, the star of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” has had enough and is suing Sun’s Publisher, News Group Newspapers, and its executive editor for libel.

The article published by The Sun, referred to Depp as a “wife beater.” “Heard, who alleges that Depp was violent toward her, is The Sun’s star witness in Depp’s libel case.”  Both sides appear to deny committing domestic abuse allegations and tend to blame each other.

Apparently, Depp said in court on Tuesday: “I am from a Southern family and rules were instilled in me from birth by my mother: you would be a Southern gentleman or it would be beaten into you.” Depp appears to have the support of his exes, Vanessa Paradis and Winona Ryder. This works in Depp’s favor since the burden of proof is on him as the plaintiff.

Depp’s obvious damages are his reputation as an actor. To refer to Depp s a “Woman Beater”  can have serious detrimental effects on Depp’s career. The judge will determine damages if the elements of libel are met.

What are your thoughts? Do you think the Newspaper got the story right?
