Dropout: Nicki Minaj Cancels Saudi Arabia Concert Over Women and LGBTQ Right Issues

We are all equal. Nicki Minaj pulls out of Saudi Arabia’s concert to stand up for women and LGBTQ rights.  Nicki cites the country’s history of human rights violations as her reason for pulling out.

As reported by Fox News, People, and other news outlets, Nicki Minaj was announced to perform at the Jeddah World Festival in Saudi Arabia. However, after educating herself on the Saudi laws about women and LGBTQ she decided to pull out. She stated, “I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community and freedom of expression.” The advocacy group the Human Rights Foundation also sent Minaj a five-page open letter explaining the human rights violation issues in the middle east further influencing Nicki’s decision to pull out.

Had Nicki performed in Saudi Arabia it looks like she would have violated a bunch of dressing laws enforced against women in the country. In Saudi Arabia, women are required to dress modestly no matter where they are. A headscarf is at the least required for all women visiting the country. Nicki dresses anything but modestly! Furthermore, homosexuality is illegal and punishable by death in Saudi, Minaj is a supporter of the LBGQT community, her performance would have been contradictory to her beliefs.

Stay tuned for more.
